With the devastation of the GulfCoast this past week the gambling industry might try to sway Mississippi legislators to consider land-based casinos. Currently there is a law that placed the casinos on the vulnerable water. Even if the casinos would have been on land it still would have been disastrous but nearly as bad. Lawmakers, particularly religious conservatives, have opposed the land-based casinos along the coast because they fear other inland counties would push for gambling houses too. These lawmakers might rethink this issue because losing the casino industry would negatively affect the state. Currently about 14,000 people work in the casinos and the lose of this industry would be detrimental to the work force.
